Transitions and provider reviews

The account description does not match the business that applied

Preserve three separate records: what you actually submitted, the provider-held wording you can verify and evidence of what the business does now. Identify the exact difference and the dates of those records, then ask the provider to correct the factual description or explain its wording through the authorized account route. Do not choose a more favorable category, conceal products or assume that a correction establishes eligibility.

For: An authorized representative of a research-only business who finds that a provider’s existing account description differs from the description submitted.

Find the submitted version before assigning a cause

Start with the application or later disclosure that was actually sent, together with its submission date and any acknowledgment. A saved draft establishes what was prepared; without a submission record it does not establish what the provider received. If the sent version is missing, mark it missing and request a copy or confirmation through the provider’s authorized route. Do not reconstruct a favorable version from memory.

Next, identify where the provider-held wording appears. Record the visible field label, account context and observation date in your private file. If a support representative described the record verbally, keep that as a reported description until the provider confirms it. A public statement descriptor, a business-description field and wording used in a review message need not be the same record; establish which one is disputed before requesting an edit.

Compare the descriptions with dated activity evidence

Read the submitted description and the provider wording alongside the actual catalog, sales channels and public explanation of the business. Identify whether the difference concerns what is sold, the research-only audience, the entity operating the store or a channel that takes orders. Describe the factual difference in ordinary language. Do not infer an unseen classification or recommend a merchant category code from the wording alone.

Then compare dates. If the business changed after the application, the original statement may have been accurate at submission but incomplete now. If the activity did not change, the question is why the current provider wording differs from the disclosure. If a description is wrong on the merchant’s own website, record that inconsistency too. A correction request should make the sequence clearer, not force all three records to look as though they always agreed.

Keep supporting records proportionate to the disputed fact. Current product pages can show what the storefront represents now; they do not prove what an older application contained. A dated submission can show the earlier disclosure; it does not establish the full current catalog. Record which fact each piece of evidence supports and what remains unavailable.

Ask for a factual correction without changing the business story

A useful request identifies the field or statement, states the accurate description, points to the original disclosure where available and names the current evidence. Ask the provider whether the displayed wording is the description it holds for this account, whether it needs correction and whether further information is required. Use the provider’s verified account or support route for any private documents it requests.

Stripe’s business information requirements say Stripe verifies business identification, what the business sells, whether it can support that activity and risk. Unconfirmed checks can lead to a request for more information or a fix; depending on severity, processing or transfers may stop until resolution. That is why a mismatch deserves an accurate response. It does not establish that a wording difference caused an account restriction in your case.

Stripe’s prohibited and restricted businesses policy prohibits misleading business information and processing for undisclosed products. The policy checked on September 28, 2026 also says approvals are service-specific and can be modified or revoked. For a Stripe account, choosing a broader or more favorable label while withholding the real catalog would not resolve the factual discrepancy. These rules do not determine whether every research-only business is approved or rejected, and another provider’s requirements must be read separately.

Close the discrepancy only to the extent the reply supports

Retain the provider’s response and compare the visible account wording again if you have authorized access. Record whether the provider corrected the description, explained why the displayed wording differs, requested further evidence or left the question unanswered. A message acknowledging receipt establishes receipt; it does not establish a changed account record. If a correction is confirmed but not visible, record both facts and ask which record was updated.

Keep the description outcome separate from any processing or account-status decision. A corrected sentence does not itself confirm approval, restore a capability or supersede a separate restriction. The remaining question may be about the account decision even after the factual description is resolved. Preserve that distinction in the team’s notes.

For a Prism processing consultation, give the website, research-only product types and a non-sensitive summary of the mismatch. Prism can help organize an accurate business description and provider questions; scope, fees and terms are discussed before work. The provider controls eligibility and account terms. The public form leads to email follow-up and does not submit the correction to the provider or start a processing application.

Business-description discrepancy record

Compare the originals within your authorized records and enter concise, non-sensitive findings here. Keep source dates separate so a later business change is not mistaken for an earlier disclosure error. An unavailable submission or unconfirmed provider field remains a gap.

Worksheet entries are not submitted by Prism’s worksheet and are not saved by the site. Use record types, availability, anonymized observations, or match/mismatch results. Do not enter government identifiers, customer names or addresses, customer messages, receipt-access links, card or bank details, passwords, or keys. Send sensitive documents only through the provider’s verified secure channel.

Record to compareEvidence and date to preserveHow to interpret the differenceYour finding
Submitted descriptionThe sent application or later disclosure and its dated acknowledgment, where available.Distinguish the sent version from a draft; an unavailable original cannot be reconstructed as evidence.
Current provider-held descriptionThe relevant account field or provider statement, its context and observation date.Confirm which record the wording describes before assuming a factual error or classification.
Actual activity evidenceCurrent catalog, sales channels and public business information relevant to the disputed wording.Identify what each source establishes about current activity without treating it as proof of an earlier disclosure.
Specific discrepancyThe precise factual difference among the submitted description, provider wording and current activity.Name an omission, contradiction or unresolved meaning without selecting a preferred category.
Timing of any business changeDated records showing whether products, channels or business facts changed after submission.Separate a later update from a discrepancy that already existed when the application was sent.
Correction requestThe factual change or explanation requested through the authorized provider route.A request should disclose the real activity and supporting facts, not conceal inconvenient products.
Provider correction responseThe provider reply, its date and any later authorized observation of the affected field.Distinguish corrected, explained, further information required and still unresolved. A receipt alone is not a correction.
Separate account decisionAny explicit provider response about eligibility, restrictions or the affected capability.Record it independently; a description update by itself does not establish approval or restored access.

These are temporary notes. Leaving or reloading this page may clear them. Worksheet entries are not sent automatically. If you copy notes into the consultation message and submit the form, Prism receives them as part of your request.

Limits

  • This comparison does not recommend a merchant category code, perform a network classification or determine legal or processing eligibility.
  • Stripe’s verification and prohibited-use statements apply to Stripe. The supplied policy does not establish the cause of an unseen account decision or universal eligibility for research-only merchants.
  • Keep identity documents, account identifiers, card data, customer records, credentials and full bank details out of the worksheet and public inquiry. Private evidence belongs only in the provider’s verified secure channel.

Sources

  • Stripe business information requirements — checked 2026-09-21. Stripe verifies business identification, what the business sells, support for that activity and risk. Unconfirmed checks may prompt more information or a fix and, depending on severity, interrupt processing or transfers; the source does not identify the cause of this merchant’s discrepancy.
  • Stripe prohibited and restricted businesses — checked 2026-09-28. The policy checked September 28, 2026 prohibits misleading information about the business and processing for undisclosed products. Approvals are service-specific and can be modified or revoked.
  • Prism solutions — checked 2026-09-21. Prism can help organize an accurate business description and provider questions. The provider decides eligibility and account terms; scope, fees and terms are discussed before work.
  • Prism contact — checked 2026-09-21. The form asks for website, products and question, excludes card details, passwords and customer records, and leads to email follow-up rather than a provider submission or processing application.
