Imported product images need a usable source

Check the exact image reference supplied for the affected product. WooCommerce documents images from directly accessible URLs or files already in the media library; a redirected cloud-storage link is not a supported substitute. Seeing a picture in your own signed-in browser does not establish that the importer can retrieve the image file. Confirm the source, record the observed access condition, and use an authorized direct source or media-library asset before marking the image transfer complete.

For: A research-only merchant or catalog maintainer preparing or investigating image transfer through WooCommerce's product CSV importer.

Begin with the image value on the affected product row

Locate the product in the actual CSV used for the import and inspect its image reference. Keep it paired with the product record and any reported import outcome. A correct image elsewhere in a supplier folder does not show that this CSV points to it, and a completed product import does not establish that every intended image is present.

Establish which path the row uses: an external image URL or an image already in the destination media library. WooCommerce's product CSV guidance allows these sources and requires external URLs to be directly accessible. Confirm the referenced asset exists in the destination library when that is the chosen source; availability in the old store's library is a different fact.

A sharing page is not the image file

A cloud sharing link can open a page containing a preview, controls or a sign-in requirement. That experience is not evidence that the importer receives the image itself. WooCommerce specifically documents that redirected cloud-storage links are not supported for this import route. Do not promise success from a familiar sharing URL or from changing its appearance in the spreadsheet.

Record what is actually observed for the exact source: the image file, a preview page, a login prompt, an access denial or an unavailable resource. Ask the authorized maintainer to compare that observation with the import result. If your browser already has access to the storage account, note that condition; your existing login cannot establish access for the importer.

The useful conclusion is narrow. A preview or login page means the reference has not demonstrated the documented direct-image requirement. A directly accessible image meets that source condition, but the resulting product association still needs checking. This source check alone does not diagnose every possible import failure.

Replace an unusable source with an authorized asset

Identify who controls the intended image and confirm that the merchant is authorized to use it. Have that owner or the store maintainer provide a suitable direct source, or place the approved file in the destination media library and use the documented import reference. Do not remove access controls from an entire private folder to make one product image reachable.

Record the replacement against the same product and intended image. Keep the prior reference in the internal handoff so an unresolved import can be traced to the file that was actually used. A replacement is not confirmed until the source is usable and the resulting destination product shows the intended asset.

Where the image has not been supplied or use authorization is unclear, mark the asset pending and name its owner. Do not substitute unrelated artwork to close the import. This workflow handles file transfer and association; whether the label or picture makes accurate product claims is a separate content review.

Verify the destination before retiring the source

Inspect the affected destination product and its media association after the authorized import work. Compare the visible image with the intended source asset and record missing or wrong images separately. An accessible source attached to the wrong product has passed an access check and failed the catalog handoff.

Keep a dependency open while the image remains absent, the reference is still a sharing page, or the intended asset cannot be identified. The next action then has an owner: provide the authorized file, correct the reference, or investigate the documented import outcome. No broad redesign follows from the source-access finding alone.

For a Prism checkout-review consultation, describe the catalog move and the remaining image-source or association problem. Send the website, research-only product types and question, without private storage links or credentials. Confirm any catalog or migration assistance, responsibilities, fees and terms before work. An inquiry receives email follow-up and does not book an appointment, buy implementation or submit a processing application.

Image import source record

Repeat for each affected product image using genuine CSV and destination records. Keep access-bearing URLs and private files in your controlled asset inventory; use source type, public references or non-sensitive labels here. Close the item only when both source access and destination association are confirmed.

Worksheet entries are not submitted by Prism’s worksheet and are not saved by the site. Use record types, availability, anonymized observations, or match/mismatch results. Do not enter government identifiers, customer names or addresses, customer messages, receipt-access links, card or bank details, passwords, or keys. Send sensitive documents only through the provider’s verified secure channel.

Limits

  • These image-source requirements describe WooCommerce's built-in product CSV importer. They do not guarantee another tool's behavior or diagnose every import error.
  • File access and successful transfer do not establish rights to use the artwork, accuracy of product claims, legal compliance or provider approval.
  • Do not enter private signed links, storage passwords, API secrets or customer records in the worksheet or public consultation form.

Sources

  • WooCommerce product CSV exporter — checked 2026-09-21. The built-in product CSV tool imports images from directly accessible URLs or the media library, not redirected cloud links. This establishes a source requirement rather than success for an unseen import.
  • Prism solutions — checked 2026-09-21. Prism publishes storefront review, processing preparation and help with provider website questions. Scope, fees and terms are discussed before work; providers decide eligibility and account terms.
  • Prism contact — checked 2026-09-21. The inquiry asks for the website, products and question without sensitive payment, password or customer records. Follow-up is by email and does not constitute a booking, purchase or processing application.
