Separate a delivery-address request from an order-record edit
Use the route the actual carrier or contracted fulfillment service permits for this shipment and requester. First establish whether the parcel was handed to the carrier, then compare its current tracking state with the requested correction. Record any instruction and its confirmation separately from an edit in the store. If no permitted route has been confirmed, the destination change remains unresolved; the store cannot promise that the parcel will follow its edited order record.
For: A research-only merchant or authorized support lead handling a delivery-address correction for an order reported as dispatched.
Preserve when the request arrived and what the requester wanted changed. Then locate the actual dispatch evidence. A label creation time, an internal shipped note and a carrier acceptance event are different records. If all you have is a label, do not infer that the parcel is already with the carrier. Ask the fulfillment owner to locate the handoff record before choosing who can act.
The FTC Mail, Internet, or Telephone Order rule defines shipment as placing the merchandise with the carrier. That definition distinguishes shipment from preparing a label and from arrival at the buyer. It does not give the merchant an address-change mechanism or determine the carrier’s options. Use the definition to keep the timeline clear, without treating this worksheet as a determination of the rule’s legal application to a particular order.
Identify the party authorized to request a change
Once handoff is established, read the current carrier event and identify who arranged that shipment. The merchant, a fulfillment service and the recipient need not have the same available instructions. Have the shipment owner check the carrier’s current official route for the actual service, country, parcel state and requester. Record what that route allows and any stated conditions; do not assume the ability to edit the store grants authority over a parcel.
Verify the customer’s requested correction under your existing authorized support process before passing it onward. Preserve the original destination and requested change inside the restricted order or support system. In the worksheet, record only that they differ and whether authorization has been established. A message asking for a change is evidence of a request, not confirmation that the request is legitimate or that the carrier can perform it.
If the parcel has not been handed over, the fulfillment owner can establish which authorized changes remain available before dispatch. If handoff is confirmed, the carrier or its contracted shipment channel must establish what is available now. If handoff or requester authority is unknown, name that exact missing fact rather than treating a store edit as the next physical-delivery action.
Keep instructions, acknowledgments and outcomes distinct
An instruction sent to a carrier, a case acknowledgment and a confirmed change are separate events. Preserve their timestamps and references in the authorized shipment record. A support case being opened does not show the destination changed. Even when the carrier records an accepted instruction, describe only the status it actually reports; do not turn acceptance into a guaranteed arrival.
USPS’s missing-mail guidance illustrates why the route must match the problem: tracking, a missing-mail search, a postage-refund request and an insurance claim are separate processes. USPS says a search may not find the item. That guidance does not establish an address-change option, and a parcel moving toward an unwanted destination is not automatically a missing-mail case. For another carrier, use that carrier’s own instructions rather than importing USPS processes.
Send an update that matches the latest evidence
Assign one support owner to summarize the request, the verified handoff state and the carrier response. The update should distinguish a requested correction from a confirmed instruction or a confirmed outcome. If only the store record changed, say what record was corrected without saying the moving parcel was redirected. Give a next update time only when the responsible team has actually committed to it.
A later refund, replacement or claim requires its own authorized decision; none is accomplished by correcting the address field. A Prism checkout and operations consultation can discuss the observed gap between store records, fulfillment instructions and customer messaging. Describe the workflow and the help requested, without sending customer addresses or tracking links through the public form. Confirm scope, responsibilities, fees and terms before work.
Address-change handoff
Use one actual parcel. Keep full addresses, tracking details and customer messages in authorized systems; enter comparison results and non-sensitive references here. Read each row as a separate stage. An order edit or open carrier case does not fill the outcome row.
Worksheet entries are not submitted by Prism’s worksheet and are not saved by the site. Use record types, availability, anonymized observations, or match/mismatch results. Do not enter government identifiers, customer names or addresses, customer messages, receipt-access links, card or bank details, passwords, or keys. Send sensitive documents only through the provider’s verified secure channel.

Limits
This page supplies no interception procedure, carrier eligibility determination or guarantee of redirection or recovery.
The FTC definition is a US rule-specific distinction; it does not establish legal applicability, liability or a remedy for a particular order.
USPS missing-mail guidance is not an address-change authorization and does not govern another carrier.
Do not enter customer addresses, private tracking links or identity documents in the worksheet or public consultation form.
USPS missing mail — checked 2026-09-21. USPS directs readers to tracking and distinguishes missing-mail searches, postage refunds and insurance claims; a search does not guarantee recovery. It does not establish an address-change route here.
Prism solutions — checked 2026-09-21. A consultation can discuss an agreed website or processing question; scope, fees, terms and follow-up responsibilities are agreed before work.
