Guest orders missing from a customer account

A guest order initially has no WordPress customer-account assignment, so creating an account and associating earlier orders are separate events. WooCommerce documents an email-confirmation linking flow from version 11.0: eligible past orders must still be assigned to Guest and have the same billing email as the account's current email. The customer must confirm that current address. Orders already assigned to another registered customer are not moved. Version 11.1 adds conditions that can hide the confirmation prompt. Check the installed version, order assignment, email match, confirmation status and signed-in account before deciding whether the missing history is expected or needs investigation.

Start with the guest order that already exists

Locate the actual earlier order in the authorized store admin and read its customer assignment. A guest checkout produces an order without tying it to a WordPress user account. A later account with the same person's name does not, by itself, establish that the order belongs in that account's history.

WooCommerce's Accounts and Privacy settings separate guest checkout, login during checkout and account creation during checkout, after checkout or on My Account. Those settings describe how a customer can order and register. They do not replace the guest-order linking conditions. Record the installed WooCommerce version before applying the documented 11.0 or 11.1 behavior; an older or customized installation needs its own applicable evidence.

Compare the original order's billing email with the current account email inside the authorized systems. A matching shipping name or another contact address is not the documented email match. Record match, mismatch or unavailable in your worksheet without copying the addresses. Absence from My Account does not establish that an order was deleted, payment failed or a replacement purchase is needed.

Apply both linking conditions and confirm the current address

The documented linking flow selects past orders still assigned to Guest whose billing email matches the customer's current account email. An order already assigned to another registered customer is excluded. If that is the observed assignment, retain it for an authorized ownership investigation rather than moving it to satisfy the request. A matching email is not permission to override an existing account assignment.

In the customer flow, the customer signs in and opens My account > Orders, requests email confirmation and opens the one-time link sent to the account email within 24 hours. Confirmation must complete while signed in to the same account that requested the link. The link does not sign the customer in automatically. WooCommerce documents that logged-out visitors and email scanners cannot complete or consume confirmation.

If the customer is signed into a different account, the documented response is to sign out and open the link again, then sign in to the intended account. An expired or invalid link requires a new request from My account > Orders. Requesting again within one minute keeps the existing link active and asks the customer to wait. Support should describe the result the customer actually sees rather than repeatedly sending unrelated password or payment links.

Confirmation applies to the current account email. If that address changes, the earlier confirmation does not establish ownership of the new address; it must be confirmed separately. Keep confirmation links and login credentials out of support worksheets and public inquiries. The customer should complete the ownership step through the store's documented flow.

An absent confirmation prompt has version-specific explanations

For WooCommerce 11.0, the documentation describes a prompt on My account > Orders for a logged-in customer whose current email is unconfirmed, whether or not matching guest orders exist. The prompt itself therefore does not prove that any past order is waiting to be linked. This behavior avoids disclosing order existence before email ownership is confirmed.

Since WooCommerce 11.1, the documentation narrows when the prompt appears. It is hidden when guest checkout is off in Accounts and Privacy, when the Confirm email address notification is disabled in WooCommerce email settings, or when the account still shows a temporary-password notice. Read these actual settings and notices before concluding that the missing prompt is a theme defect. Guest checkout being disabled today is not evidence that the store never accepted guest orders in the past.

The same documentation explains that completing the emailed set-password link confirms the address, so an additional prompt is unnecessary in that flow. Completing a later password reset also confirms the current account email. Do not equate an email being sent with its link being completed. Check the resulting confirmation and order association, and do not ask the customer to create a new purchase to investigate an older order.

Choose the next action from the condition that failed

If the earlier order is Guest, the billing email matches and the current address is unconfirmed, guide the customer through the applicable confirmation flow. If the prompt is absent on 11.1, check the documented settings and temporary-password condition first. If the emails differ, explain that automatic linking is not established by those records and use the store's authorized ownership-support process. Do not change an email or mark it confirmed merely to make the check pass.

If the order is already assigned elsewhere, leave that assignment intact while authorized support investigates ownership. If all documented linking conditions are met but the order remains absent, give the maintainer the installed version, Guest assignment result, email-match result, confirmation result and observed My Account state. That is a specific association defect to investigate, without exposing another customer's orders or assuming the payment needs repair.

This account confirmation is separate from the email privacy check shown when someone opens a guest order payment link. Completing or possessing a payment link is not the documented account-history confirmation procedure. Use the order-association evidence to answer the missing-history question, and the gateway record only if there is a separate payment question.

For a Prism checkout-review consultation, summarize the version and the association condition that remains unresolved. The existing checkout-review service provides the scope discussion; responsibilities, fees and terms are agreed before work. Send a description of the behavior rather than customer emails, account files, login credentials or confirmation links.

Guest order association check

Use one actual earlier order and the account requesting access. Compare personal details only inside the store's authorized records, then enter match, mismatch, confirmed, unconfirmed or unavailable in the blank column. Follow the first unmet condition; if all applicable conditions are met but the order stays absent, preserve the observations for the maintainer. This worksheet does not authorize reassignment.

Worksheet entries are not submitted by Prism’s worksheet and are not saved by the site. Use record types, availability, anonymized observations, or match/mismatch results. Do not enter government identifiers, customer names or addresses, customer messages, receipt-access links, card or bank details, passwords, or keys. Send sensitive documents only through the provider’s verified secure channel.

Association conditionWhere to establish itWhat the finding permits you to concludeYour observed result
Installed WooCommerce versionThe version actually running on the store, including any known customization of account behavior.Apply the documented 11.0 linking flow and 11.1 prompt conditions only where applicable; do not assume older versions behave the same way.
Original guest assignmentThe earlier order's current customer assignment in the authorized order record.Still assigned to Guest meets one linking condition. An account-history gap alone does not establish a guest assignment.
Billing-email matchCompare the order billing email privately with the account's current email.A match meets the email condition. Names, shipping details or a different contact address do not substitute for it.
Current-account confirmationThe confirmation result for the current address, including a completed applicable set-password or password-reset flow.An email merely sent is not a completed confirmation. A changed account address needs its own confirmation.
Signed-in account and link resultThe customer's account context and the observed confirmation result; do not copy the link or password. The same requesting account must be signed in. An invalid or expired link requires the documented new-link flow.
WooCommerce 11.1 prompt conditionsGuest-checkout setting, Confirm email address notification setting and any temporary-password notice.A hidden prompt can follow documented conditions; it does not prove the absence of historical guest orders.
Order assigned elsewhereWhether the order already belongs to another registered customer, checked only by authorized staff. The guest-linking flow does not move it. Leave the assignment intact pending an ownership investigation.
Observed order link stateWhether the matching order appears under My account > Orders after the applicable confirmation flow.If eligible and confirmed but still absent, record the discrepancy and route it to the maintainer; do not create a replacement order.
Next action and ownerThe unmet condition, applicable customer action or specific technical investigation, and who owns follow-up.Close the case only when the association outcome is observed or the documented exclusion is explained; do not equate account visibility with payment success.

Limits

  • The linking and prompt rules described here have explicit WooCommerce 11.0 and 11.1 boundaries. They do not establish behavior on older versions or custom account systems.
  • Email confirmation for account history is different from guest order-payment-link verification. No administrator bypass or unverified order reassignment is prescribed.
  • Account access does not establish buyer eligibility or payment approval. Do not include customer addresses, identity documents, passwords or confirmation links in the worksheet or public consultation request.
