Compare card and ACH requirements for the orders you take
Fit the rail to the written offer and to the order you actually take. Stripe's card and ACH Direct Debit documents do not describe the same confirmation, capture, settlement, or refund, and they do not govern a provider that is not Stripe. On Stripe, the buyer enters card information, and cards can be authorized now and captured later. ACH Direct Debit takes a US bank account, requires the buyer to authorize the terms and the account to be verified, and can take up to four business days to acknowledge success or failure. Stripe says it is not a guaranteed payment method and that it does not support manual capture. You can decide which of your orders needs a result at checkout and which can wait. The provider decides whether either rail is available and what your agreement says. Until that offer states the timing, the timing is unknown. Describe the work you need. Prism will confirm scope, responsibilities, fees, and terms before work begins.
For: An owner or authorized representative of a business that sells peptides for laboratory research use only and is comparing card payments with ACH for its own orders.

Confirmation means different things in the Stripe documents
Stripe's card document says a buyer initiates a card payment by entering card information, and that some networks and countries add a verification step. Its ACH Direct Debit document says acknowledgement of success or failure can take up to four business days. The buyer must authorize the payment terms, and the bank account must be verified. The charge can expose an expected debit date. Stripe says that date is an estimate, not a guarantee, and that the actual date might vary.
Stripe's same ACH page also describes Instant Bank Payments as a different option, with instant confirmation, available only as part of Link. Do not treat that option, or every bank method, as ACH Direct Debit. WooCommerce's order-status guide uses the BACS gateway as an example of an offline method that leaves an order On hold until you manually confirm payment. Its settings page lists Direct bank transfer under offline payments. Those store methods are not the Stripe ACH timing above.
Settlement into a Stripe balance is not the deposit in your bank
Stripe's balances document says settlement time is when funds become available in the Stripe balance. Its example of a United States card payment is two business days, and the country table lists two business days for the United States. The same page says risk criteria might keep an account from the default timing. Bank payment methods on that page typically settle more slowly than cards. The table lists ACH Debit at four business days. The ACH document's standard timing is four business days from payment creation, with a cutoff at 21:00 US Eastern. A two-business-day ACH option exists only for eligible US users.
After ACH funds settle to the Stripe balance, Stripe says payouts follow the payout schedule you set. The payouts document says Stripe sends available funds to your bank, the first payout is typically scheduled within 7 to 14 days and can take longer, and the bank may take more time after it receives the payout. Those sentences are Stripe's. They are not another provider's schedule, and they are not a promise for your account.
Refunds are documented as different operations
Stripe's general refunds page says you can refund all or part of a successful payment, that a refund might incur a fee, and that the original processing fee is not returned. A provider refund status is not proof that the buyer’s bank has posted the credit. Check the applicable payment-method documentation and the actual refund record; do not promise a statement-arrival date. If the available balance cannot cover the refund, Stripe says card refunds can remain pending, while refunds for other payment method types fail.
The ACH Direct Debit page does not use that description. Check the current ACH Direct Debit documentation and the actual payment record for supported refund amounts, the submission window, and processing timing. Do not infer those details from the card-refund page. An ACH refund cannot be canceled. It is a separate credit to the bank account, not a reversal, and it is not labeled as a refund on the bank statement. It appears as a credit that references the original statement descriptor. Stripe also says a refund does not stop a dispute, and the buyer might receive two credits if both happen. This page does not restate a fee amount. Read the price in your own offer.
The ACH dispute-process section and a later evidence section of the same page do not describe one contest rule. Use the notice on the dispute you received. Do not carry a card-dispute practice over to an ACH debit, or the reverse.
A hold now and a capture later is a card question on Stripe
Stripe's hold document says separate authorization and capture is supported for some methods, including cards, and is not supported for ACH Direct Debit. Authorizing a card holds the amount. If you do not capture before the authorization expires, Stripe says the funds are released and the payment status becomes canceled. The WooCommerce Stripe extension says that when its capture-later setting is on, only cards, its express checkout methods, Affirm, Afterpay, and Klarna support manual capture, and other payment methods are hidden.
A workflow that must ship before it captures is therefore not an ACH Direct Debit workflow under those documents. Whether your provider allows either rail for this catalog is not answered here. Stripe's restricted-business page is Stripe's list. It does not say that choosing ACH changes how that list applies.
Decide from the offers in front of you
You can decide which of your live orders needs an answer at checkout, which can wait for a delayed acknowledgement, and which depend on capturing later. You can reject an offer that does not state those points. You cannot decide that a provider will enable the rail. The provider decides availability, price, reserves, and the timing in the agreement.
Prism can help you organize the website facts and the questions for that provider. The provider decides account approval and processing terms. The contact page follows up by email. It does not submit a processing application. Which company actually provides the rail is a separate map. If the offer does not name confirmation time, settlement, refund handling, and whether manual capture exists, those items stay unknown.
Rail comparison from written offers
Use one row for each operating question. Copy figures only from the written card offer and the written bank-debit offer in front of you. Stripe's figures in the guide are not a substitute for either offer. Leave it blank when the offer is silent. Worksheet entries are not submitted by this worksheet or saved by this site. Use only non-sensitive summaries; do not enter credentials, government identifiers, card or bank-account numbers, private receipt links, or customer details.

Your comparison
What the buyer does at checkout
What the opened Stripe documents say, and where they stopStripe cards: the buyer enters card information, with possible extra verification. Stripe ACH Direct Debit: the buyer authorizes the terms and the US bank account must be verified. These steps are not WooCommerce's offline bank-transfer instructions.
What to copy from each written offerThe checkout steps each offer actually describes for your store.
When success or failure is acknowledged
What the opened Stripe documents say, and where they stopStripe ACH Direct Debit can take up to four business days and is not guaranteed. Its expected debit date is an estimate. Stripe's card document does not use that acknowledgement window.
What to copy from each written offerThe confirmation language in the card offer and in the bank-debit offer.
When funds become available to you
What the opened Stripe documents say, and where they stopStripe separates available balance from a later payout. Its US card example is two business days to the Stripe balance, and its ACH Debit table says four business days, or two for eligible US users. Risk criteria can change timing. The bank can add time after a payout.
What to copy from each written offerThe settlement and payout sentences in your agreement, not a figure copied from Stripe unless the offer is Stripe's.
How a refund is issued
What the opened Stripe documents say, and where they stopStripe's general refund page describes partial or full refunds and a statement entry that depends on the network and issuer. For ACH, confirm supported refund amounts and timing from the current method-specific documentation and payment record; do not copy a card-refund timeline.
What to copy from each written offerWhether each offer allows a partial refund, and how the buyer is told to recognize it.
What a dispute or return does
What the opened Stripe documents say, and where they stopStripe says ACH Direct Debit can fail or be disputed, and that a refund does not prevent a dispute. The ACH page's own sections do not state one rule for contesting every dispute. Card disputes are not described there as the same process.
What to copy from each written offerThe dispute notice for the rail you are asking about. Do not substitute the other rail's rule.
Whether you can authorize now and capture later
What the opened Stripe documents say, and where they stopStripe says cards can use separate authorization and capture. ACH Direct Debit does not support manual capture. The WooCommerce Stripe extension hides methods that do not support that setting.
What to copy from each written offerWhether each offer allows a delayed capture for the orders you ship later.
Whether this business can use the rail
What the opened Stripe documents say, and where they stopStripe's documents describe product behavior. They do not say this research-use-only catalog is eligible for card or ACH, and choosing one rail does not change the other rail's eligibility decision.
What to copy from each written offerThe written statement from each provider about this legal entity and this catalog.

Limits
A Prism consultation can help you organize the facts and discuss the website or processing question. The payment provider decides eligibility, pricing, reserves, and whether an account is opened or closed.
Timing, refund handling, and capture rules on this page are limited to the Stripe or WooCommerce documents named in the sources. They are not another provider's ACH or card product.
The provider determines which rails are available to the business and the applicable account terms.
Stripe ACH Direct Debit — checked 2026-09-21. ACH Direct Debit debits a US bank account, needs authorization and verification, can take up to four business days to acknowledge success or failure, is not guaranteed, and its refund is a separate credit rather than a card reversal.
Stripe cards — checked 2026-09-21. A buyer starts a card payment by entering card information. Depending on the network and country, the buyer may have an additional verification step.
Stripe balances and settlement — checked 2026-09-21. Settlement makes funds available in the Stripe balance. The US card example is two business days. ACH Debit is listed at four business days. Risk criteria can change timing.
Stripe payouts — checked 2026-09-21. A payout sends available balance to the bank. The first payout is typically scheduled within 7 to 14 days and can take longer. The bank may add time after receiving it.
Stripe refunds — checked 2026-09-21. A successful payment can be refunded in whole or part. A refund might incur a fee, original processing fees are not returned, and non-card refunds fail if the available balance cannot cover them.
Stripe authorization and capture — checked 2026-09-21. Separate authorization and capture is supported for cards and is not supported for ACH Direct Debit. An expired card authorization releases the funds and the payment status becomes canceled.
WooCommerce Stripe authorization and capture — checked 2026-09-21. When that extension's capture-later setting is enabled, only listed methods support manual capture and other payment methods are hidden.
WooCommerce order statuses — checked 2026-09-21. An offline method such as the BACS gateway generally leaves the order On hold until the store manually confirms payment.
WooCommerce settings — checked 2026-09-21. Offline payments in WooCommerce settings include Direct bank transfer, which is a store payment method and not a statement of Stripe ACH timing.
Stripe prohibited and restricted businesses — checked 2026-09-21. Stripe's prohibited and restricted categories are business-category rules. The page does not say that choosing ACH Direct Debit changes whether a category is allowed.
Prism solutions — checked 2026-09-21. Prism can help organize questions for a provider. The provider decides eligibility and account terms. Scope, fees, and terms are discussed before work.
Prism contact — checked 2026-09-21. Follow-up is by email. The request does not submit a processing application or purchase a service.
