Transitions and provider reviews

A saved-card migration is being called a subscription migration

Every recurring arrangement still needs evidence connecting the customer’s agreement, billing schedule, amount basis and responsible billing system to the transferred payment method. A card-data transfer does not establish those connections. Stripe’s export excludes payment history and other objects, so its completion cannot demonstrate that a subscription schedule or agreement arrived. Inventory the actual arrangements, reconcile their next collection against existing records, and keep any missing consent, schedule or billing-owner evidence unresolved before treating recurring billing as ready.

For: A research-only merchant reviewing a credential-transfer completion notice while existing recurring arrangements still need continuity evidence.

Read the completion notice for what actually moved

Stripe’s payment-data export is a controlled transfer of card data to another PCI DSS Level 1 processor. Link credentials are excluded, as are payment history and other objects. The transfer’s scope is narrower than the commercial arrangement that tells a system when and why to charge. Use the providers’ actual transfer records to identify what was included, excluded or left unresolved.

A notice saying that credentials were transferred establishes only the result it names. It does not establish that an agreement, recurring amount or schedule was recreated at the destination. Keep the credential-transfer status separate from recurring-billing readiness. For an export from another provider, use that provider’s documented scope instead of assuming Stripe’s inclusions or exclusions apply.

Trace each arrangement from consent to the next due payment

Begin with the actual agreement reference in the merchant’s restricted records. Read the agreed payment initiation, timing or frequency, amount or calculation basis, and subscription cancellation terms. Stripe’s save-and-reuse guidance requires specific consent for the intended future use and a retained record of the customer’s agreement. Merely saving a method is separate from charging it.

Compare those terms with the current billing record and its recorded state. Identify the next scheduled collection and the last recorded billing activity so an already billed period is not mistaken for the next unpaid one. Any cancellation, pause or unresolved amount in the real records must remain visible in the handoff. Do not fill a missing schedule from a generic product price, infer consent from possession of a credential, or describe a newly chosen amount as the old agreement.

Keep the comparison at the arrangement level. A total number of transferred credentials cannot show that every recurring arrangement has a matching destination record, and a recurring record without a usable transferred method has a different unresolved dependency. Use internal reference mapping, not card data, to connect the two.

Name who controls the next collection

The billing owner means both the system scheduled to initiate the payment and the authorized person responsible for its configuration. Identify each from the actual migration scope and current settings. A receiving processor holding card data does not itself tell you whether the store, a billing platform or another authorized system schedules the next charge.

Compare old and destination schedules before authorizing a billing change. If both appear able to initiate the same period, record the overlap and assign the cutover decision. If neither has the next collection recorded, identify the missing schedule. If the old system’s state cannot be established, leave the handoff unresolved. These are checks against existing records, not instructions to charge, cancel or switch off a live arrangement.

Where the destination use differs from the agreed purpose, do not assume transfer completion extends permission. Identify the changed seller, timing, amount basis or use and obtain the applicable provider process and agreement decision. The worksheet cannot determine whether a particular agreement transfers or whether new consent is required in an unseen case.

Describe readiness without promising a successful renewal

A useful completion record distinguishes credential transfer confirmed, arrangement records reconciled, and specific dependencies still open. An arrangement is not ready for an authorized handoff while its next collection, consent record or billing owner is unknown. Even a fully documented handoff does not guarantee that a future payment will succeed.

For a Prism processing consultation, explain the research-only catalog, the providers involved, what the transfer notice actually confirms and which recurring dependency remains unresolved. Prism can discuss processing preparation and organize provider questions. Confirm scope, responsibilities, fees and terms before work; do not assume the inquiry includes a subscription migration. Use a non-sensitive summary in the public form, with no customer agreement files, card details, tokens or customer lists. Follow-up is by email, and the request does not buy work, book an appointment or submit a processing application.

Recurring arrangement continuity table

Use a separate copy for each actual recurring arrangement. Record safe internal labels and the location of restricted evidence, not customer identities or payment credentials. Treat a missing agreement, schedule, amount basis or owner as an open dependency even when the credential transfer is confirmed.

Worksheet entries are not submitted by Prism’s worksheet and are not saved by the site. Use record types, availability, anonymized observations, or match/mismatch results. Do not enter government identifiers, customer names or addresses, customer messages, receipt-access links, card or bank details, passwords, or keys. Send sensitive documents only through the provider’s verified secure channel.

Existing agreement referenceLocate the agreement version, consent record and intended future-use scope in restricted records.Establishes the terms to compare with destination billing; a saved method alone does not supply them.
Actual billing scheduleCompare the recorded cadence, next collection and current active, paused or canceled state where applicable.Identifies timing that must survive the handoff without inventing a new schedule.
Amount determinationRead the agreed amount or calculation basis and compare it with the destination configuration.Exposes a changed billing commitment that a credential transfer does not authorize.
Last recorded billing activityCompare existing payment and billing records for the relevant period; note unresolved activity.Helps identify a duplicated period or gap without assuming history arrived with card data.
Payment-method transfer scopeUse the sending and receiving providers’ records to confirm the included method and any exclusion.Separates a transferred credential from an unmatched or excluded one; do not copy tokens or card details.
New billing ownerName the destination scheduling system, responsible person and documented handoff from the old system.Identifies who controls the next collection and whether two systems still overlap.
Unresolved dependencyRecord the exact missing evidence, owner and decision needed before the handoff can be treated as ready.Prevents a successful data-transfer receipt from closing an unfinished recurring arrangement.

Limits

  • Stripe’s export restrictions and future-use consent guidance apply to the documented Stripe processes. Another provider’s migration scope needs its own confirmation.
  • This comparison does not authorize new charges, establish transferability of an agreement, approve the business for processing or guarantee uninterrupted billing.
