A provider needs a complete document but our copy is heavily redacted
Preserve the original and compare the provider's actual document request with the redacted copy. Identify the required visible fields by label, then confirm whether any redaction is permitted for that document, purpose and country. Supply the required evidence only through the verified channel the provider names. For Stripe verification documents, the documented destination is the Dashboard, not email. If the provider's requirements and the redaction cannot be reconciled, ask about an accepted alternative before submitting another altered copy. Do not send sensitive originals to Prism's ordinary inquiry form.
For: A research-only merchant whose provider needs verification evidence that has been obscured in the available submission copy.
Find what the redaction prevents the provider from checking
Start with the specific verification request, or the Dashboard rejection reason if a copy has already been submitted. Name the document type and the fact the provider needs to establish. Compare the original privately with the redacted copy and record only which field labels, pages or relevant reverse-side information are obscured. The worksheet needs to say that a required field is hidden; it does not need the field's sensitive value.
This separates two problems. The underlying document may not answer the request, or the document may answer it but the submitted copy has removed the evidence. Making an unsuitable document more readable will not change its purpose. Removing masks without first checking the requested document can disclose more information while still failing verification.
Complete evidence is specific to the request
Stripe's acceptable-verification-documents guidance calls for readable, complete and unexpired documents and relevant information on the reverse side. Its common requirements distinguish original scans or photographs from screenshots or processed files. A newly edited or heavily masked copy should not be assumed acceptable merely because it remains legible. Follow the instructions for the specific document and rejection reason.
The country and verification purpose matter. In the United States company/entity instructions examined for this guidance, the name and tax ID must match the account information, and some letters have expressly listed address exceptions. Those exceptions do not create a general permission to obscure any address or identifier. A submitted SS-4 application is also distinct from an IRS confirmation letter; unmasking the application would not turn it into that confirmation.
Use those distinctions to read your actual request rather than to choose a tax classification or document from this article. Account and residence country can affect identity-document rules. Do not transfer one country's redaction instruction to another, and do not assume that translation or a substitute document is accepted when the relevant instruction does not establish it.
Resolve the conflict without distributing another sensitive copy
Keep the original unchanged in the business's controlled records location. Keep the earlier submitted copy and its rejection reference distinguishable from the original so the authorized preparer can see what changed. Use folder or document references in the worksheet, not public share links, tax identifiers or document images. Retention timing should follow the business's applicable requirements; this page supplies no universal retention period.
Ask the provider a narrow question through its established support route: identify the document type, country, verification purpose and obscured field labels, then ask which redactions, if any, it permits or which alternative it accepts. Do not attach the original to an ordinary message to illustrate the question. Stripe directs unknown or unavailable document questions to its support team and directs sensitive document uploads to the Dashboard.
If the instructions establish that the required fields must remain visible, the authorized preparer can use a qualifying original scan or photograph through the named upload process. If the permitted redaction remains unclear, leave submission pending clarification. Privacy is not served by guessing a masking rule, and completeness is not a reason to send the file to an unverified destination. For another provider, confirm that provider's own requirements and secure channel rather than assuming Stripe's process applies.
Record the submitted version and the provider's response separately
Before uploading, compare the selected file with the request: correct document, required sides or pages, readable content, current validity where required and permitted treatment of sensitive fields. Confirm the uploader is authorized to disclose it. Record the file reference and submission receipt after using the provider's verified channel. A receipt establishes submission, not acceptance.
If the provider rejects the file, use the stated reason to identify the remaining defect. Do not keep resending the same redacted copy when the reason concerns hidden information. If the request cannot be met, report the missing document or unresolved permission and seek the provider's accepted alternative; do not fabricate a replacement.
For a Prism processing consultation, describe the document category, the verification question and the unresolved redaction issue without attaching the document or copying identifiers. Prism's contact page excludes payment-card details, passwords and customer records, and the inquiry does not submit a processing application. A consultation can organize the question within agreed scope, fees and terms; the provider decides document acceptance and account eligibility.
Secure submission requirement check
Complete this for one actual document request. Enter field labels, record references and status only; never enter identity documents, tax-number values, bank details or customer data. Submit only after document suitability, required visibility and the authorized destination are established. Keep pending and accepted as different outcomes.
Worksheet entries are not submitted by Prism’s worksheet and are not saved by the site. Use record types, availability, anonymized observations, or match/mismatch results. Do not enter government identifiers, customer names or addresses, customer messages, receipt-access links, card or bank details, passwords, or keys. Send sensitive documents only through the provider’s verified secure channel.

Limits
Stripe's September 29 document check covered common requirements and United States company/entity instructions; other countries and verification requests may differ.
No universal redaction, substitute-document or translation acceptance rule is established here. Provider instructions govern the actual request.
Do not submit identity documents, card data, passwords, full bank details or customer records through the public consultation form. A complete document does not guarantee processing approval.
Stripe acceptable verification documents — checked 2026-09-29. Common requirements call for readable, complete, unexpired documents and relevant reverse-side information, distinguishing original scans/photos from screenshots or processed files. US company/entity instructions require name/tax-ID matching and list specific address exceptions; an SS-4 application is not an IRS confirmation letter. Country and request scope matter. Dashboard rejection reasons guide correction; unknown or unavailable documents go to support. Sensitive documents use Dashboard upload, not email; translation acceptance was not established.
Prism contact — checked 2026-09-21. The form is for the website, products and question and excludes payment-card details, passwords and customer records. A consultation request does not submit a processing application.
Prism solutions — checked 2026-09-21. A consultation can organize the processing question within agreed scope, fees and terms. The provider decides what documents it accepts and whether the business is eligible.
